Apr. 15, 2008: Retro beverages

Yesterday I was reflecting on Razzles and Smarties..today let's think back to all those sugary soft drinks we used to guzzle..

We didn't always have Coke or other real soda when I was growing up, but I don't remember a time when we were ever without Kool-Aid. I'm sure I drank hundreds of gallons of the stuff, with Cherry and Black Cherry being the two most delicious flavors. Orange was the worst.

I also remember seeing commercials for Wylers, and another soft drink mix that feature the characters Goofy Grape and Rootin-Tootin Razzberry. For years I've been trying to remember what the name of that drink mix was..luckily today there was a computer handy so I could look it up on the internet. (Even Mike couldn't remember the name of the stuff....his memory not even sufficiently jogged when he found a Goofy Grape cup at a garage sale!)

But there it was....just one quick Google search..and I found it. It was called Funny Face, and it was sugar free (no wonder we didn't buy it at our house.) I even found a commercial for it on Youtube..and it turns out the original flavor names were less than politically correct.  Check it out!

What do you think?

That one I remember!
Hadn't thought of it in years!

..wow
This was a bit before my time, but it seems exquisitely...creepy. Who would want to drink a beverage that had a flavor of a person? "Injun Orange".... sounds kinda gross...

Orange Bad?
Orange was my favorite! It wasn't bad until they changed the formula sometime in the late 70's. Grape was the worst. I don't know about the rest of you, but I remember sneaking an extra 1/2 to full cup of sugar into the pitcher when mom wasn't looking.
