Apparently some of you are a bit worried about me due to my recent posting advising you to "save the earth." I assure you I'm okay, and I'm certain today's entry will be more up your alley.
It seems every one is on the "green" bandwagon these days--but in the early 1970's ecology was all the rage as well. That's when we all started paying attention to the sludge being pumped out by factories, the harmful effects of some pesticides, and the future of the planet in general.
My friends and I were even temporarily distracted from our nightly games of Kick The Can and Red Light Green Light to start an environmental initiative of our own. I remember we wrote notes encouraging older people to make sure to leave the planet in good shape for us kids. And we went around putting the notes on sidewalks (held down with rocks) outside the homes of the elders of the neighborhood. I wish I could have seen their faces when they read them!
Anyway if you're as old as I am, you'll remember this public service announcement, featuring Iron Eyes Cody. It may have been what got my friends and me all fired up about ecology.
I'd like to see this comercial (The Indian with a tear in his eye because of the condition of the landscape) played again. I commute from Janesville every day and the trash on the Interstate is embarassing.
July 31, 2008 The last time you were carded So the governor of Washington State, a 61 year old woman, just laughed it off when she forgot her ID and they wouldn't let her into a bar. Reminds me of the days when I used to get carded regularly..
