Apr. 7, 2008: Can convenience foods be TOO convenient?
|
I'll all in favor of fast, easy food..but there's a new product out now that seems to assume we can do nothing for ourselves.
Have you seen the commercials for Freschetta PizzAmore? It's frozen "take-out" pizza with a bake and serve tray. Okay. I have no problems with that. But here's what gets me. It comes pre-sliced!
Wat am I missing? Is there something complicated about using a pizza cutter? I'm not extremely coordinated, but that's something I've been able to master with very little concentration or effort. I know, sometimes there can be a slight annoyance if you didn't cut all the way through on the first time..and you have to zip it over the pizza again. But come on! Mom doesn't cut up my French toast any more...so I think I can handle slicing my own pizza.
And another thing..according to the magazine ad, "it's PRE-SLICED" with generous toppings, just like at your favorite pizzeria." I notice that the pizza is cut in triangles..while my favorite pizzeria cuts its pizza in little squares. I call that false advertising!!!
I know I'm getting a little worked up about this. But if convenience is what the public wants..I've just now come up with a couple great ideas. Oreo Cookies--already separated to make it easier to eat the cream out of the middle.
Or pre-chewed Sirloin Steak, for those of us who don't want our mandibles to be over-worked.
You just wait. These ideas could actually catch on. |
