Apr.10, 2008: Alex Trebek--a friend of the family?

 WIth Jeopardy in Madison this week for the College Tournament, it got me to thinking about the time my dad met Alex Trebek. No, he wasn't a contestant...it appears my dear old dad met the game show host just to make me jealous.
Way back in 1990, Alex Trebek was a guest speaker at some kind of Commission on Aging conference that was going on in Stevens Point. My dad was pretty involved with that local group..so of course he attended. And he says he arranged to have his picture taken with Alex just to get my goat.
I still remember coming home from Madison for a visit and seeing the framed picture proudly displayed on top of our TV.
"Look--I met your hero, " my dad bragged, eagerly showing me that he also got Alex's autograph (on the back of a $3 ticket for an ice cream social!)
I have a feeling that Dad was excited to meet him too..but the fun was multiplied by the fact that he had a chance to one-up me!
My dad liked a good joke almost as much as he liked getting publicity. That's why I'm hoping he can read this blog "from the other side." As he liked to say---"there's no such thing as bad press."
