April 15, 2008: But It's Better Than Driking Alone.
Remember that line from that old Billy Joel song..."They're sharing a drink they call loneliness...But it's better than drinking alone." There's a similar feel to training for the Ironman- there's people all around you, family, friends, teammates, coaches, etc. all helping you pursue your dream, but at the same time it's a pretty lonely pursuit. When the alarm goes off at 5:30 in the morning and it's time for a 10 mile run, there's not a whole lot of people jumping at the chance to go with you. Learning to swim- a lot of alone time. Mid-week long bike ride- on your own. Same with the mid-week long run. That being said, I'm having a ball doing this. I've met a whole bunch a really great people who have helped push me far beyond anything I have ever done before. My family and friends have been so supportive. And I am constantly learning new things about myself- sometimes really good things..."I really can run 26.2 miles!" Sometimes not so good things..."It really hurts for several days after I run 26.2 miles." So for all who have been helping and supporting me on this journey...THANK YOU!
July 31, 2008 The last time you were carded So the governor of Washington State, a 61 year old woman, just laughed it off when she forgot her ID and they wouldn't let her into a bar. Reminds me of the days when I used to get carded regularly..
