April 9, 2008: I Have Just One Question...
|
|
It's not a tough question, but so far nobody has been able to give me a good answer. Why is it that when I run on the treadmill, indoors, with no wind in my face, no hills to run up or down and the most forgiving of all surfaces, a 10 minute mile feels like a good pace? I can run faster on the treadmill, but in general, I'm in that 10 minute mile range. When I'm outdoors, in the elements, up and down hills and on the unforgiving surface of a sidewalk or paved road, my time actually improves. I'm comfortable running between 8 and 8 1/2 minute miles. So why is it that in the best of conditions (indoors, on a treadmill), I'm slower than in not so good conditions (outdoors, in the elements)? |
