Feb. 6, 2008: Dark Knight

Bobby Knight stepped down as the head coach of Texas Tech the other day.  Thank goodness!   He finishes his career with 902 wins.  That's the most of any college basketball coach in history, but  he will forever be one of the worst coaches ever...at least in my mind.

Here's why.  Throughout his career, Knight tried to teach his players discipline and respect for the game and each other.  The only problem.  He NEVER had any discipline, self-control or respect for ANYONE.  There are tons of stories and videos of Knight losing his cool during a game.  He's strangled players and even kicked his own son.  But that's not even the worst part.

I can understand a coach who is a tough guy on his players and demands the best, but Knight would be horrible to secretaries and other people who had nothing to do with his team.  He would lose his temper in the office and swear and yell at people and throw things around on a regular basis.   Knight's the kind of person who would yell at the bag boy at the grocery store for not moving fast enough.   When I say yell, I mean really yell  and say horrible things  just to try to mentally hurt the person.

If you are a big Bobby Knight fan, I bet you he would be completely rude and horrible to you if you met him and made one move that he didn't like.  He didn't care if you were a fan of his.  In fact, he probably detests you even more for being a "follower".

Winning at any cost and having no regard for other human beings  does not create a great coach.  It creates a worthless, one dimensional sub-human.

July 31, 2008 The last time you were carded
So the governor of Washington State, a 61 year old woman, just laughed it off when she forgot her ID and they wouldn't let her into a bar. Reminds me of the days when I used to get carded regularly..
