Jan. 14, 2008: There's another whole world out there!
There's another whole world out there that I didn't know about. We'll that may be overstating it a bit, but there's definitely a whole community that I didn't even know exhisted. Madison's running community. Yeah, I knew there were runners in Madison. But I didn't know that they ran in packs. I've seen small groups of runners out on the roads and trails before, but never realized what a big social event this can be. Yesterday, a few teammates and I decided to go for a run. We met at Victor Allens on Monroe St. at 7:30 yesterday morning and were planning on about a 9 mile run. When I got there, there were the three others from my team that I expected to see, along with another dozen or so runners, all seemingly waiting on me (this would not be the last time on Sunday that they were waiting on me). I found out that this was a group that regularly runs together. As we ran, I bet we ran into another half-dozen similar groups. And then when we finished, we all gathered for coffee (decaf tea for me, please) and talked about...you guessed it...running. Who's doing the Boston Marathon? Who's doing Ironman Wisconsin? How about that little snow squall we just ran through? You know we can make that a 20 mile loop by just adding the loop around lake Monona!?!?!!? Did you guys see that snow-shoer on the lake? He was running faster than we were! How about those crazy ice-fishermen? I'm sure they were looking at us thinking the same thing we were thinking about them..."Those people are crazy!"
July 31, 2008 The last time you were carded So the governor of Washington State, a 61 year old woman, just laughed it off when she forgot her ID and they wouldn't let her into a bar. Reminds me of the days when I used to get carded regularly..
