Mar. 14, 2008: Signs of Spring
|
It was getting to the point where I was pretty sure spring would never arrive. But yesterday I took a walk and actually found some evidence that spring is "just around the corner."
Not only did I see my first robin of the year, I also found the last remains of Frosty. Five charcoal briquets, a shriveled carrot, and a very small snowball was all that was left of what I'm sure once was a very proud snowperson. (Sorry I couldn't resist the gender neutral version).
While I felt a bit sad about Frosty, I was excited to see that first robin. According to my late father, that means a few things have to happen before spring actually arrives. Here's how this little piece of weather folklore goes. "After you see your first robin, it has to snow three more times, with enough snow to track a cat, before spring arrives and the snow is done for the season." Although at different times, he swore that it was four or five times. (Consistency was not his strong suit).
This year I swear I'm going to keep track and see if it comes true.
I'll let you know. |
