Mar. 25, 2008: Too Young to Play a Game?
|
The NBA is thinking of raising the minimum age again for when a player can join the league. On the surface this seems like it might be a good idea because a kid in high school may not be able to handle the life of a professional athlete. In fact, a lot of fully grown athletes can't handle the life of a professional athlete.
However, I don't think it's right. If someone is talented enough to do a job, they should be allowed to do that job. We have tons of child actors and singers. I think a new player in the NBA who is just 17 or so should have to take some courses on living the life of an athlete.
All that being said, I still think it would be better for an athlete to spend a year or two in college getting better at his craft. But should he be forced to? I say no. |
