March 26, 2008: It's a great day for a run...and a swim.

Just a few thoughts/observations from today's workout.  Well, actually workouts...an early morning run and an early evening swim.

First off, no matter how early I get up, I can't get to where I'm going as early as I would like.  The alarm went off at 5:30 this morning, which is really 5:20 (I know, we've talked about this before), so I hit the snooze button and then actually got up at 5:40am (5:30).  O.K., 5:30 is still pretty early, but somehow I didn't make it to the healthclub and get on the treadmill until almost 6am,  which means it was after 7 when I got home and started getting ready for work.  Not the way I wanted to start my day.  Oh, yeah, I also forgot my I-pod again.  Thankfully, this time the headphones were in my gym bag, so I could at least watch TV while I ran.

The swimming is coming along.  I'm almost to the point of actually swimming.  I just recently progressed to the next set of drills and have been working on them for the last few days.  Today was the first day that the new drills went fairly well.  Every time I move on to the next phase of learning, I feel like I take a step or two back for a few days until things finally click.  Today was the day they seemed to click.

I was swimming in the "sport" pool at Harbor Athletic Club and there were some kids playing on the other end of the pool.  Right towards the end of my swim the kids were shooting baskets -- remember when you were a kid and you would pretend it was the end of the big game and your shot was for the win?  Well, that's what was happening at the othe end of the pool.  The kid was standing across the pool from the basket and shooting as he jumped in.  Then I heard it -- "Time running out...for the win" and then he takes the long shot as he jumps in the pool.  Misses the shot and says "Now, that's dissapointing."  Looks like a little more practice befor he hits the big time in the ANBA (Aqua National Basketball Association).
