Remember the old song, " Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold”? Well, my” gold” friend was in town for a whirlwind visit. Her name is Liane Hansen and she hosts a national radio show on NPR and was invited to give a speech at UW Stevens Point. They flew her out of Washington DC a little early so we could catch up and have a nice visit. They picked her up this morning and drove her to town.
It’s really wonderful to have good friends, and I am lucky enough to still be touch with a lot of my friends from college and my early days in radio. These are the people who knew you when, but still love you anyway. We had a nice visit and we made a delicious lentil soup.
Last May she was honored by our alma mater, the University of Hartford when they gave her an honorary doctorate and asked her to give the commencement address.
It was amazing to be back on campus with her watching her give a speech while sitting with the wife of the president of the university being snarky about the proceeedings..
I don’t think either of us has changed at all. What do you think?
