May 9, 2008: Getting misty on Mother's Day
|
Mother's Day is a little tough for me..since my mom's not around any more. I'd love to take her to brunch or bring her some goofy gift...
My mom passed away 21 years ago next month, but sometimes it seems like it was just yesterday. Unable to ignore all the Mother's Day hype, I find myself thinking about her and missing her all over again.
Here are some of the things I'll always miss
* coming home late at night and seeing the orange glow of her cigarette in the pitch dark living room
* watching Johnny Carson, smushed up next to her on the couch (I'm the one next to her, not Johnny)
*joining her for a snack of tomatoes from the garden, sliced on a piece of buttered toast
*her soft hands and naturally perfect fingernails
* the twinkle in her eye as she worked on crafty projects
*the sound of her voice (I think I can still remember it).
Happy Mother's Day Mom.
And to all of you who still have a mom you can go visit on Sunday, give her an extra hug for me. |
