O'Cayz Corral

Once upon a time in Madison at a place called O’Cayz Corral, local bands shared the stage with the likes of Nirvana, The White Stripes and Soundgarden.

The O’Cayz Corral caught fire early in the morning Jan. 1, 2001. The fire traveled from a bar next door, and it burned O’Cayz to the ground, ending its 20-year contribution to the Madison music scene.

Played there
I played there in 1981 with a band called Easy Action and we played for the door. I think I made 6 or 7 bucks that night, but what a great time we had! We rattled a antique sled off of the fake western wall. It fell and hit my girlfriend in the chin whenthe handle slapped back and hit her in the face. Kay was so concerned that she was hurt, but I think she was more concerned about being sued!

Broken floor
Does any one remember who was playing when the floor collapsed? I wasn't there but it was a pretty big deal at the time!

Worked and Played there!!
I used play in a band called Jagermonster. I also worked there. We opened for ,Tad,Skinyard, and a bunch of other SubPop bands. I even managed it for a short time after Tom Layton left to Bigger venues. I was also there for the floor collapse when The RC Mob had everybody jumping and the floor gave out resting on the main gasline supplying the building. The show was moved to the Club D while the firemen came in to make sure the line wasn't ruptured. "Young Corbit!!"
