The Outdoor Report

For the weekend of May 16, 2008

Before you head for the woods this weekend, pitch in and help the Triple M Green Team paint red bikes Saturday morning. Meet at the Budget Bicycle Center used store at 930 Regent Street.

For a great paddling adventure, check out Grant River in Southwest Wisconsin, which flows into the Mississippi River near Potosi. Lots of turtles have been spotted, including Eastern Spiny Softshell Turtles and snapping turtles the size of dinner plates. You might even see a bald eagle or two!

The trails at Devils Lake are shaping up with most of the hiking trails are now open, but there are still quite a few muddy and slippery sections.

Events at the UW Arboretum this weekend include a night walk Saturday at 6:30 and free Badger trolley tours Sunday at 1, 2 and 3pm. (More info here).

On Sunday, spectators are welcome for the Wheels on Willy Criterium from 9 to 4:30 on Williamson Street. The event includes a free kids' race at 12:30. (More info here)

sewing up a cool award
Congratulations to Margaret Jankowski of Monona! She got to go out to Colorado to be on the radio show etown (heard right here on Triple M) and meet the Bodeans. It wasn't just luck that got her there. She was being recognized for the non-profit organization she founded called The Sewing Machine Project.
